The WUGNET« Third Party Sampler for Windows« 95
Background: As part of its advocacy role for Windows
95, WUGNET determined that a CD-ROM collection of 32-
bit commercial applications and shareware would be
extremely useful to Windows 95 Preview participants and
anyone evaluating Windows 95. This CD demonstrates the
advantages of operating under Windows 95. This
collection of 32-bit oriented applications Sampler
offers an exciting opportunity for individuals and
corporations participating in Microsoft's Windows 95
Beta and Preview Program to fully evaluate Windows 95,
by using programs designed to leverage Windows 95 new
features. With over 50 applications covering a variety
of application categories, WUGNET believes The Sampler
will demonstrate what it will be like to compute in a
32-bit Windows 95 environment. This CD provides you
with many of the applications necessary to start and
accelerate your evaluation.
Purpose: The purpose of this FAQ is to provide answers
to the most frequently asked questions about our CD
sampler program, The WUGNET Third Party Sampler for
Windows 95 (The Sampler), and to show you how The
Sampler can help you evaluate Windows 95.
Q: What is The WUGNET Third Party CD Sampler?
A: The Sampler is a library of software developed for
Windows 95. The applications on this CD are full 32-bit
versions that leverage the new features in Windows 95
(such as long filename support, preemptive multitasking
and multithreading).
Q: Who is the target audience for The Sampler?
A: The Sampler is targeted at Windows 95 beta testers,
Windows 95 developers, Windows 95 Preview Program
participants, the press, consultants, network
administrators, system analysts, etc. Everyone who runs
Windows 95 can benefit from The Sampler.
Q: What type of applications are on the Sampler? Are
these applications all shareware?
A: The Sampler includes a mix of applications,
utilities, and games -- all designed for use with
Windows 95. While some applications on the Sampler are
shareware (such as the highly acclaimed WinZip utility
by Nico Mak Computing, Inc.), most are full commercial
applications including: American Megatrend's Personal
Care, Micrografx's Picture Publisher, Symantec's PC
ANYWHERE "Preview Edition", Traveling Software's
Laplink, O'Reilly & Associates WebSite and Digital
Directory Assistance PhoneDisc. The sample PhoneDisc
database contains over 200,000 computer related
business address and phone numbers.
Q: How were these applications selected?
A: WUGNET has been a participant in every Windows beta
since Windows 2.0. A long standing association with
Third Party Vendors resulted in early identification of
new Windows applications. WUGNET contacted the top
Windows ISVs through its global online audience,
outreach at trade shows, relationship with Microsoft
Solutions Providers, and developers events to offer an
opportunity to showcase their software on this CDROM.
Applications were selected based upon meeting the
technical requirements of having a 32-bit application
that demonstrated the features of Windows 95.
Q: How can The Sampler aid corporate and home
evaluations of Windows 95?
A: The Windows 95 Preview Program includes one copy of
Windows 95 and reference manuals, leaving end users to
rely on their existing 16-bit Windows applications for
evaluation of Windows 95. Often times, these 16-bit
applications don't fully showcase the benefits of
Windows 95.The applications included on The Sampler are
full 32-bit applications that showcase Windows 95's new
system features. WUGNET has fully evaluated all of the
software on The Sampler and determined that this CD
provides a comprehensive demonstration of Windows 95's
capabilities and advanced system features. With The
Sampler, users will get a look at the future of Windows
applications and how they work under Windows 95 today.
Q. Will this CD save me time and money ?
A. This comprehensive collection of full featured
applications immediately provides you with a collection
of software that many users/evaluators would acquire
over time. The Sampler delivers a valuable library of
programs that allow you to simulate resource intense
system conditions such as running communications
programs while performing graphics redraws.
Q: How will technical support be handled?
A: The Sampler vendors have been invited to provide
support on CompuServe's WINNEWS forum in a special
section. Information on how to obtain support for each
application is included in The Sampler Setup Resource
File.
The collected group of Powered by of Windows 95
Advisors and additional technical support
representatives will be providing support for The
Sampler on the WINNEWS forum on CompuServe.

individual versions of these applications?
